                 TYRAMINE and other FOOD TRIGGERS

Many Headaches and Migraines are clearly triggered by eating certain foods. Many times I've interviewed a patient to find that not only did they eat some commonly known trigger foods, that food was often a major part of their diet! When they avoided those food triggers they greatly reduced the number of migraines they got overall.

Foods that contain high amounts of Tyramine are often the worst food triggers.
Use The Low Tyramine Diet listed below to know which foods to avoid.

Some foods, even trigger foods, can be eaten in small amounts and infrequently, while others should be avoided as much as possible. You'll have to experiment to find the foods that trigger your migraine.

Also, some headaches are triggered by low blood sugar levels. Adding good quality snacks of fruit or low fat proteins between meals can boost your energy and stave off a headache.

Lastly, don't forget to drink plenty of fluids! Headaches of all types are often triggered or made worse by not drinking enough water! REALLY! That means HYDRATE! HYDRATE! HYDRATE!

DID YOU KNOW?
Many people who suffer from Migraines often don't develop a migraine during a stressful situation but later after a period of relaxation!

Fresh foods are best
, as are freshly cooked foods, especially ample amounts of fruits and vegetables. Eating several servings of fresh fruits and vegetables reduces your sodium intake and naturally increases your daily allowance of potassium and magnesium. These two important minerals are known to decrease the incidence of Migraines!

Avoid highly processed and packaged foods as much as possible.
In general, it is important to avoid canned foods including soups and stews, pickled foods, aged cheeses, dried or cured meats and yeasted breads. Other common migraine triggers are nuts, chocolate, wine, coffee and sodium.
